It's been along day. Got the new Optima sighted in that Mom gave me for Christmas ahead of time, and did the feeding, and headed out to a deer stand for a short stay this evening. Weather was about forty with a light breeze, and a few clouds. Pretty day for this time of the year. I'd been shooting up the bottom for a few hours this afternoon sighting the new gun in, and didn't really expect to see too much; as it turned out, I didn't.
But, then again, sitting on a deer stand gives one time to think and reflect on everything else. Like, how fortunate we live somewhere that we can get close to nature. Watch a redtail soar, and see if that fox on the other end of the hayfield pounces on the vole he's listening for. Paying some attention to the movement in the brush down by the creek that you see in the corner of your eye as you slowly look across the farm. Turns out to be a couple of birds picking berries off the bushes. Noticing a few ridges along an old road that could be levelled out to turn two smaller fields into one bigger one. Wondering when the muttonheads in DC are gonna do something useful; what are corn prices going to look like next fall, should I replant that corn field in hay? Gosh, it's Christmas already! Kids and grandkids all day. Dammit, the Ravens played earlier this afternoon. Forgot all about it. Want to go down to the nursing home and see Mom tommorrow- she turned 98 on Thanksgiving day. Shame she can't come home for dinner tomorrow. We'll have to take her some.
Yep. Got plenty to be thankful for this year. Good kids and grandkids, great wife and peace out here in the country. Healthy herd, plenty of feed for the winter, and fall work done.
I hope eveyone else is as fortunate. I know not everyone is in the same shape. We all have problems, but most are the small ones we face every day. I hope few if any of your problems are major ones.
I ask for peace, and pray for the safety of our armed forces. I hope none go hungry through this season of joy, and all share in the plenty this nation produces.
May all of you fine folks out there, wherever you may be, Have a Merry Christmas.

Today's Featured Article - Upgrading an Oliver Super 55 Electrical System - by Dennis Hawkins. My old Oliver Super 55 has been just sitting and rusting for several years now. I really hate to see a good tractor being treated that way, but not being able to start it without a 30 minute point filing ritual every time contributed to its demise. If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
