Sixteen years ago our first grandchild was born. Her mother, our daughter, was opening gifts with us on Christmas day when the labor pains started. She wasn't about to leave the festivities because of a little thing like labor pains so she held in there until everything was cleaned up and then she and her hubby went to the hospital. When it was over she had a redheaded daughter to claim as her own.
Now the little redhead has turned into a beautiful sixteen-year-old redhead who can't wait to drive on her own. We're going to have a party this afternoon with great-grandparents, grandparents, great-aunt and uncle, uncle, sisters and cousins.
The only one missing is her mother. Her mother passed away 9 years ago and we all pray that she can be here in spirit, looking down from above. I don't want to sound morbid, but darn it's a tough pill to swallow. There are certain events that bring back the past and Christmas and birthdays are on the top of the list.
So for those of you who are in the same shoes we are in, you aren't alone, if that brings any comfort. Cherish your loved ones because you never know when the time comes where you only have memories of them. Jim
