In the mid to late 50's My parents and other adults were complaining about the federal government stealing from social security. The only thing I knew about that was going on was the interstate highway system. I also read that Eisenhower was so impressed with the german highway system that he wanted to get something similar or better in the US. The roads in this country was a disaster before WW II. I read about a Army convoy that was to travel from east to west and see how long it took. I can't remember the route but after that disaster the need for a better highway system was deemed vital for national defense. Maybe we have too many authors who print facts that suit themselves.
