George, We have a pratice of whenever we are gone over night we always shut the supply line off. Gives one a lot of peace of mind. We do have a water driven back up sump pump that uses a seperate line in case the power should fail but can only be used when you have city water system. One place that I have heard of that can make a mess is when the water feed to an icemaker fails.
