One thing I haven't seen mentioned. Our lane to the barn has a slope in it, and we have it drained to the low side. But I also have three 'Water breaks' going down on the steepest areas. These breaks are like speed bumps for water. They have an angle to them, and a higher ridge on the downhill side to divert smaller amounts of flow to the ditch area rather than one larger flow down the whole way. This stops a whole lot of washing out on down the lane where a large amount of water used to cut the stone out on us.
