My Chevy 1/2 ton 379 c.i. diesel full-size 4WD pickup only has 240 lbs. of max torque at 2000 RPM and 136 horse at 3600 RPM - just as many of the 305 gassers had. Works well enough for a light-duty truck that isn't going to do any heavy towing.
For a light truck, this new Ford sounds impressive to me IF it can get 21. MPG or better on the highway.
My old 4WD K10 diesel gets 17 MPG around town and 22 MPG on the highway.
The Ford F150 4WD with the 3.7 is rated 17 MPG around town and 21 MPG highway as rated. But gas is a lot cheaper the diesel fuel now adays.
My in-laws have a new Ford Escape with the 2.5 in-line four. It gets up to 31 MPG with 6 people in it at 65 MPH. That too has me impressed. Plenty of power too - but obviously - it's not a pickup truck.
The EPA rates the new Escape as getting a best of 27 MPG but I know this new one gets 31 MPG. So, I wonder it the new F150 also does better then the EPA posts.
