Hi, I'm in that business. Your money is probably at the county level. The state may have some but the counties have a pile too. No, it's not a scam but you have to be careful people don't take advantage of you. By that I mean this: anything over 25% fee is gouging unless there will be attorney's fees involved. Sometime it is necessary to hire an attorney. Counties are starting to use what is called an "interpleader" action meaning the distribution of the funds is left up to a judge. You can probably find the funds by contacting every county you've lived in and asking the tax assessor, tax commissioner or clerk of courts for your money. These are the people that hold the money at the county level before it goes to the state. If you lost a house to foreclosure from either a tax lien or mortgage forclosure, your money is probably being held by the county waiting for you to claim it. Make sure you tell them it was a atx or mortgage foreclosure or they will check their unclaimed funds list and it is different. You have to speak their language. Make the call to the county and claim it yourself or search google for "unclaimed state money" and check the state website for unclaimed money. I'm in Texas and Texas has over 3 Billion in unclaimed money. My guess though is your money is at the county level. Good luck

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
