Art B, Sounds to me like you Baled them at the perfect stage!!! Little to No Shatter. IMO Most people wait Waaaaayyyyy toooooo long to bale Oats. Their are over Mature so the seeds shatter out when balled! Yes the rule of thumb is Dough stage, but inevitably due to the time of year that oats come off, weather conditions, and most people where I am from do not own their own equipment then have it laid down in the Milk stage. Your hay is perfect IMO!!! For yearling cattle comming off the truck as 400 cwt Stockers. 6 to 12 hrs of NO water and All the Oat hay they can eat.....It just doesn't get NO Better for their health than that. Later, John A.
