Mostly from the west,or northwest seems the jet stream has 2 directions, from the north or from the south, just look out the kitchen window down at the 20 acres of pond, 'cept when its frozen. Often times there seems to be a meeting of the 2 or one cancels the other out, (wind direction).
The other scenario is a system that comes straight out of the south, like Hurricane Irene and that tropical storm after it. Right up the Hudson Valley, if that had been snow.... well lets not think about that.
On rare occasions, something will come from the east, but I think that is part of a rotation in the system, usually a large weather system, it did when Irene came through. There has been a lot of north or south winds lately. Usually if it warms from the south, when that cold air comes in, the transition is high winds, storms or the like, lately when its changed, transition has been mild.
