All one needs to do is look at what has happened here in Canada. True, carrying of guns for personal protection has never been an issue like it has been in the US, but, since more prohibitive gun laws have been passed here, the rates of home invasions and burglaries have risen. Same applies to Australia. If one defends one's self in the invasion of one's home, and shoots a burglar, the burglar must be shown to have been threatening your person or your family with lethal force, otherwise self defense is not warranted, and you will be charged. That has been tried in court here, quite locally. Also, the RCMP here take a very dim view of anyone owning guns for any purpose, with the exception of very few, and almost all of those members were rurally raised. The elimination of the long gun registry here cannot come soon enough for anyone in the countrysides, and opposite feelings are felt in urban areas. It has been a colossal waste of taxpayers money. Since when do gang bangers and hoods register long guns, or handguns for that matter. In the words of someone, I forget who, in the land of the blind, a one eyed man is king. That applies here also. In a land of unarmed people, the armed ones rule. Whether they be police or army, or gangsters, you can't tell the difference when the gun is pointed at you.
