It appears that the tractor that you and FF are describing is a 340B, and the 340 & 340A have a smaller engine & lighter one piece front axle, like 335's
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: 340 & 340A have cast front axle, while 340B has the fab box beam. it also appears that between the A & B tractors is when they went to the heavier front bolster.
