Unfortunately people can't just gear up and make spoons as you state. The problem is that before they do anything they have to get the funding to get their spoon design patented. Then they have to insure that they can get the funding to pay the big bucks to rent/buy an industrial building for their business because their city neighbors would holler about zoning, etc, etc, etc if they didn't. Then they have to get a professional to write up the needed warnings to keep the average user from using the spoon wrong. Then they need to get an attorney on retainer just in case somebody out there doesn't know how to properly operate a spoon and hurts themselves, chips a tooth, etc, etc, etc regardless of the warnings. Then they can find the China made equopment to make the spoons. Then the China made material to make them out of. From there they then have to work to stay within EPA guidelines with said material, disposal of products used in producing the spoons and other industrial waste they may produce. Then they have to meet any other regulations pertaining to the making of an eating utensil. Then if the grow the company they have to make sure that they stay within the regulations concerning hiring minorities, the handicapped, etc, etc, etc. If they don't meet one of those regs then they get fined, sued, etc, etc, etc.
From there, just use your imaination as to what other hoops they have to jump through to meet OSHA guidelines, DMV guidelines with their shipping vehicles, etc, etc, etc. All of this because, remember, this us the good old US of A, and in this country if your in business for yourself your gonna get regulated, fee'd, and taxed to death just to be allowed to go into business. Once/IF you get in business and get past all of that, and any other business and/or government related expenses, etc, you'll be lucky to have enough money left in the pot each month to buy something for yourself that's made over in good old' China......Because the rest of the businesses here in the US are facing the same problems and restrictions. As such they aren't paying their employees enough to be able to afford the USA made products because they have to add so much cost to the product to comply with all of the US regulatory crap that in the end no one can afford to buy their product........ Sad but true more times than not............
