You forget one thing. Yes, he chose to join the military. Beyond that some desk jockey, (ie- senator, congressman, the president, the medial, etc, etc, etc) are the ones that actually made the bed for him. I say that because he joined the Maries with the idea of serving his country and with the knowledge that when he was sent into combat he would be allowed to protect his life as well as his buddies lives without question. Unfortunately between the politicians and the medial and their idiodic desire to be PC, even in a war zone, was not his choice anymore than it would be your's if you were placed in the same situation.
What many people fail to understand is that in the Arabic culture even 'friendlies' are expected by their religion to house the enemy if so asked. For this reason, and may, many others, in an Arabic culture your dealing with a population that, in general, hates everything the US stands for and when dealing with the extreemists you can easily times that hatred by ten.
So, in the end you have a guy that did, in fact, enter the military of his own free will. Unfortunately once he signed those papers his free will was taken away and everything he does is now is now viewed in minute detail by those that set behind a desk somewhere and tell him what he can and can't do to protect his life as well as the lives of others.....who are more intent on being PC and not hurting the enemy than they are in insuring our guys have the authorith, permission, or whatever you want to call it, to do the job they actually signed up to do........... But that's the .02 of a Navy vet who has talked to enough enough Vietnam vets to know how it was for them, and then saw it for myself during the first Gulf War....
