I worked around guys like that for 45 years. I don't have anymore tolerance for them now than I did then. 90% of the guys I worked with did a great job and worked hard. The 10% caused 90% of the problems, made 90% of the scrap and late deliveries, etc. There is something to be said for just canning the bums and saving the jobs of the other 90%.
