Around here ( NW Ohio ), they used pretty much what was on the property. Lot of oak, elm, maple. And man that stuff is hard as a rock. Nail gun with 75PSI on it has a hard time driving into it. There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
