My boss, CEO of our company grew up very poor and started his career with a basic 4 year engineering college degree and working hard for other companies. He finally took a very large gamble and started his own company. With smart choices and perfect timing all the stars aligned for him. He now has 3 houses worth about $1 million each, drives a new mercedes every year, etc....You get the picture. Point is he took a gamble on mortgaging his own house and put himself in a financial bind to take a chance to make it.
I started working for him when he first started the company. One day we were talking about lifestyles and such. He said something that stuck with me. He said "It doesn't matter how much money you make, you will always be running short on money because your toys just get more expensive the more you make." I thought about that statement and it is true. Although driving a new Lexus is much better than driving a 78 Ford that you can see the road through the floorboard. But, it is all relative I guess.
