I understand that people in the Soviet Union learned to read between the lines in their news so they could have some idea about what was going on. Since we have a lapdog media in this country, rather than a rabid one which is really interested in doing its job of holding people in government accountable, we just get the pablum that is appropriate for us to hear. I stopped listening to the government experts years ago when they tried to say that the dramatic spike in petroleum prices would not result in inflation. Yeah, right! And according to them, inflation has been very benign in the past four or more years. I can't think of anything that I buy on a regular basis that has not gone up at least 50% in the last few years. Most stuff has more than doubled. And because of the remarkably low inflation, banks are giving less than 1% annual interest on deposit accounts.
Am I angry and cynical? I guess maybe. But at least spring is on the way!
