I paid half that since carpenter never installed steel before. Inspector said shingles have to come off. I argued about weight, but he said "the book says 2 roofs, shingles have to go. Only real surprise was snow avalanches. Had to put little plastic stops on roof for about 500 bucks. Reason for metal: Redirect electromagnetic waves from high voltage towers. Many in this area, including myself, have or have had cancer. I believe EMF is the reason. Dave
