There is no argument that there are abuses of the subsidies, anything the government handles has fraud. However most farmers for many years had to settle for low commodity prices because of government meddling in the markets. Subsidies kept the prices low in the grocery store so in a way anyone who bought food was subsidized. Most of the money recieved was spent right here in the US at emplement dealers, Coops and truck dealerships that gave many local people jobs. As farm prices have risen, subsidies are and will go down but the price of groceries are going up. The consumer doesn't like this and blames the farmer, it's no wonder that young people have no interest in farming.
