I had a L5 disk 10 years ago. started in the fall and got progressively worse. 4 months of seeing the chiropractor ended when the pain suddenly got intollerable and I had to go to emergency. got pain meds and mri appointment. Got the mri and met the surgon. He did a physical exam, and told me" your mri results are not up here yet, but it looks like a classic herniated disk. we will treat it with heat and therapy and if all else fails we can resort to surgery". He then made me the appointments with the PT. on the way out of the clinic, I was paged to return to his office. When I got there he said" I have seen your mri and what I can't figure out is how you are still able to walk around" I was in surgrey at 5:00 the next morning. I regretted the surgery for about the first 48 hours, this post surgery pain was worse. after that it got better. FOLLOW THE GUIDE LINES FOR THE RECOVERY, NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU FEEL. I did, a friend didn't. I have no more back problems, he does. I have to be careful about how much I lift and bend, but the pain is gone. good luck to you.
