If the square is stripped, try getting a new cable core kit from a truck dealer and make the cable slightly longer. Maybe you can get down to the unworn part of the driver. You can also try tapping the tube with a small punch where the square part is formed, to try to reduce it's I.D. and grip the cable core. These are custom speedometer cable kits where they give you a mile of core and you cut it to length, and there's a little tool for installing the square on the speedo end after it's cut to length. Take a piece of cable with you so you get the right diameter core. If none of that works, call Bates and see if they have any used tach driven gears.
