They've taken all the creativity out of it. Usetabe in NASCAR, as well as on our level when I was in it, if you started blowing the doors off of everyone else, it was up to them to figure out how to compete with you. Now, if one car starts running faster than everyone else, they make him detune it so everyone else can compete.
Also, now I don't know who's who among the drivers. When I was stationed in Beaufort, SC, I used to go to a half mile dirt track in Savannah, GA every Friday nite. At that time, Cale Yarborough was one of the local brats driving a sportsman. Lee Roy Yarbrough and Tiny Lund ran there, too. (Note the difference is spelling in Cale and Lee Roy's last name. I may have it backwards). I met Bobby Allison several times, actually raced against him in a short track show once, etc. I just don't feel connected with the drivers anymore, like in the days of Cale, the Allisons, Petty, David Pearson, et al.
My wife and I went to a lot of the Winston Cup races till the ticket brokers took over and it was tough getting tickets. The track at Brooklyn, Michigan used to automatically renew our tickets for the June race every year at one time, but that got blown out of the water.
I don't even follow local short track racing that much, anymore. After being on the firing line for years, I can't sit in the stands. Most of the people in the stands haven't a clue what it's actually like on the track and in the pits.
