If it's a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton it has the New Process 208 transfer case. You fill the top plug with Dextron. Takes a wrench bigger then 1". It's an odd size - 1 1/16" or 1 3/16". I've got over a dozen of those trucks - all with 6.2 diesels. In the late 80s, the NP241 took the 208's place. Same fill though. The cast-iron 205 is only used in the 1 ton trucks in your year range and they take 90W GL-5 gear oil.
