I live in Arthur, IL. We are home to the 3rd largest Amish sect in the nation. Here all horse drawn vehicles have SMV emblems, reflective tape, reflective tape around wheel hubs, and all must have flashing amber lights, plus headlights and tail lights. Also, certain townships require all horse drawn vehicles to have a license plate. This is done as a to identify a buggy in an accident, plus it is a good way to collect revenues. Here we have amish buggy lanes for horse drawn vehicles on the major highways. Most of the Amish are very good citizens and understand public safety for themselves and others. They contribute greatly to our economy. Come here on any given weekend and you will see some highly pimped buggies with stereos that will compete with any car and darn near all have cell phones. I have been here 47 years and seen it all when it comes to Amish. They are good folks and good friends. When our community needs something done you can count on the Amish to pitch in and get it done.
