I suspect you had Google Toolbar and it got wiped. Go to http://Download.cnet.com/windows/ , type "Google Toolbar" in the search box in the upper right hand corner, then download it again.
VernMI wanted you to try the "tools"( gear icon ) on the far right end of the bar directly above this screen, my XP Professional has it there. An alternative way to change the default search engine is to right click on your Internet Explorer Icon on your desktop, left click "properties", on the "General" page about halfway down will be "search", left click on "settings" and switch the default search engine.
