As we continue on this amazingly warm weather farming is under way in central IL. For about a week now people have been busy finishing up applying NH3 and any other work. Here is what we have been up to.
We had a couple little patches of oats with some grass seed to put in. So last saturday afternoon....
We put the seed in the drill and I sent nick and the drill to the field. It did sprinkle rain but we got them in.
Then sunday morning we went to the field to do the plowing where the cows have been running.
With the plow running 8 inches deep, set on 18" cut the 4630 could hold about 4.8mph without working to hard. With the warm dry weather this is about the best I've seen this plow.
Running right along side the 4630 was our 1971 4020 powershift. We had it overhauled this winter and we thought this would be a good way to break it in. Didnt work it too hard just pulling a 4-14" IH#16. Did a nice job.
Wrigley has been enjoying the weather as much as the rest of us. They day we plowed it was 82 degrees. Lots of people mowing thier lawns and its the middle of march! Talk of planting although its actually a month to early. So anyone else doing any farm work? Things will really get interesting here if it doesnt rain and or cool off. Only time will tell. bill

This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
