I'm sorry for the rant- it upsets me that PHD's are pushing this stuff as "science" but if I had applied this quality of reasoning to my term papers I would of never been able to earn a B.S. in agriculture. If I had applied this level of ethics as a commissioned officer in the Air Force I'd still be in Leavenworth (and I separated over 20 years ago). So many people don't understand that with our current agricultural practices food=oil (or other fossil fuel resources), if oil becomes more expensive so will food. I am a firm believer that world hunger is an economic problem, meaning WE can produce enough food to feed the world. The problem is the poor of the world cannot afford food, making oil more expensive will only widen the gap between what people can afford and what they need. If non-market forces cause agriculture to revert back to prior, less fossil fueled practices we will not be able to grow enough food to feed the world. My other concern is as our government implements non-market based restrictions on our economy that other emerging economies don't have our standard of living will decline, while theirs will increase to a level greater than ours without a significant reduction in "climate changing" greenhouse gasses.
