Speaking of ears, when I was in Korea I was track commander of a M113 for a trip out to do maneuvers. It was really cold that morning so I put my helmet down in front of the heater. I'm pretty sure the metal ear piece that encapsulated the speaker was only a few degrees from glowing red when I put it back on after letting the hot air warm it up for apparently to long.
My ears were so cold I actually smelled my ear burning before I felt the heat and pain.
