He was a great musician and innovator. That said, back in the late 1950's, he and Lester Flatt recorded a song, "Cabin on the Hill" that went to number 9 on the C&W charts. That tune happened to be written by my cousin, Bolivar Lee Shook. It took several letters from my cousin and his lawyer to get Flatt & Scruggs to even credit him as the writer. I don't think he ever received a penny in royalties. Bolivar was a cripple, he made his living tuning pianos,and teaching music. He certainly could have used his share of the money that Flatt & Scruggs made off his music. I love my Bluegrass music but I'm not a fan of Flatt & Scruggs.
