10 years ago, when I moved my EBY aluminum grain box from a single axle truck to a tandem, I needed a heavier hoist. I bought an Omaha Standard "Olympic 144 HD", cash and carry for about $4000, if I recall corrrectly. I remember thinking then that frequently an old farm truck with hoist and box sell for less than that! This was top-of-the-line "maintenance free" with composite bearings in all joints! A couple weeks ago the box didn't want to come down!(empty) When I did get it to come down, one of the cylinders puked out some oil.(Does anybody else know what DOT thinks of that?!) Had one awful time getting the cylinders and hanger brackets out. Over time the road salt had worked into the pivot where the cylinders hang, and started to set up. Under load the cylinders didn't leak. Apparently they would flex enough empty, being stressed, they could leak. Omaha Standard tried to sell my dealer some whole new pivot assembly for some $1600-$1800 ! The wonderful "composite" bushings(or whatever they have now) won't be available for two weeks!!! Cylinder kits in MAY sometime!!!!! Apparently all replacement parts have to be MADE! The truck dumps ONE load a week Jan. through Sep., plus small grain, and corn harvest. We are going to hope the bushings get here, and fit! And put it back together with cylinders as is. At least the cylinders will be easy to put in and take out with the pivot working properly. Where is Omaha anyhow, somewhere in Tibet?
