I agree. If a person is not footing the bill, they've got no reason to be prudent with the service. Some plans are setup so you pay the first $4000 or so and then the "insurance" kicks in above that. Sensible way to go.
Health care is a product or service like anything else. The notion that it is some inalienable right is crazy and a socialist idea. And hospitals can't refuse treatment in the ER, so every illegal or person w/o insurance heads to the ER with any little ailment. They walk out the door and stick the hospital for the bill. Uncompensated health care is in the tens of millions of dollars per year for inner city hospitals.
And why does a pill here in the US cost 10 times for what you can buy it for outside of our borders? Take a look at what our govt requires in the form of FDA requirements if you're a medical (pharmaceutical or device) provider. The documentation requirements are astounding. Also look at the plaintiff bar to see why medical costs are so high. Malpractice insurance and liability insurance drive the price up because any little mistake and the "victim" has hit the LOTTO. People complain about hospital costs but you don't see them making millions and millions of dollars. Heck, most are struggling to break even. Doctor's and nurses aren't minimum wage positions and that MRI machine can't be bought at Walmart. People expect Cadillac health care but at the price of a Yugo.
