Pick up the phone and ask him what they need. Of course they will say "nothing". But at least you have extended the offer. When you drive over face to face offer again. They lost everything, their minds are surely in a small state of disarray.
Had a similar situation to yours. Asked the guy what he needed, he said "all I really want is chicken and a mt. dew". Thought it was odd, but I cruised into town and grabbed a bunch of bbq chicken and some cold mt. dew and ice.
Ran into him at Christmas and we chatted for maybe 15 minutes. Second thing he said is "man remember the chicken you ran into town and got me? Its been 10 years and he remembered like it was yesterday.
Guess I am saying don't be surprised what odd thing you may help them with that would mean the world to them. Oil change in the truck, something like that, who knows.
