Around here they are not the tractor of choice so they don't appear in sales much and when they do they are usually low hours. The 4430 on the other hand has a turbo and 25 more horses and that is what people buy and wear out.
I posted not long ago about having the choice between the two. Both did not have any "workings" redone, but did have cosmetics and rubber fully restored in factory condition. Interior of cab was basically new and AC was the new freon with new compressor and hoses and all.
I gave $17 for the 4230 with 3900 hrs on it and in very tight condition and passed on the 4430 with obvious9000+ hour wear which was priced at $19.
I didn't like the sloppy starts on cold days and using a starting aid was inconvenient besides I don't like subjecting my engines to them. I replaced the OEM battery setup with parallel 12v Size 31 HD batteries, with 3/8 studded terminals, new 00 custom made battery cables, applying power and ground at the starter solenoid and starter case.
Never got too cold down here to start it in just a few seconds with no starting aid.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
