Motor homes are money pits. Worse than boats. A gas engine in a big motor home is a disaster. Hard to keep them cool and Dads 34' with a 454 chev gets 4 mpg. You can't run much over 60 mph or it will heat up. If it a hot TX day much over 85 all 3 ac still won't keep you cool. We ran across the NM,AZ,CA desert and had to stop and get a motel during the day and run at night.
If you going to do it get a big diesel pusher motor coach. Like a bus. My uncle aunt and uncle lasted about a year traveling in one before the novelty wore off. Budget $250,000+ for one of those.
I grew up traveling in motor home on family vacations. Is was cheaper for a family to travel vs flying. BUT vacation time lost traveling was tough. Pretty boring for a kid.
I personally will never own a motor home. I have rented them. Now we either drive or fly and rent hotels rooms or stay with friends and family. Typically don't lose much time traveling which leaves more time to play.
