Yes it was held there in 1957. I had relatives that lived near there. It was a big deal and the whole community pitched in to make it happen. There where over twenty farms that changed their crops to have the display area for the contest. International Harvester was a big player in it too. They provided a whole lot of construction equipment for the show. There also where conservation displays of ponds, terraces, and dams/stand pipes. They built a 3500 foot runway for airplanes to land on. The funny thing was to get it that long they had to build it across the state highway. The State Highway Patrol would stop the traffic and let the planes land.
I have a photo of a DC-10 with International Harvester painted on the side landing as it crossed the road.
Earl DeVore was instrumental in getting the show to be held there. Fine fellow I met him once.
I have a DVD that was put together when they celebrated the fifth anniversary. It has actual footage of the show and interviews with people that where there. Including the Queen of the show, She still is a pretty lady.
I have attached a link to an article about the show.
