: This may come as a suprise to you but THEY DID NOT HAVE LEADED GAS IN 1944. Leaded gas didn't come out until after WWII. Also a number of farmers used to use something called "White Gas" instead of "Regular Gas" because it was cheaper. White gas is simular to what is sold now a Colman stove fuel. I have a 1941 Ford 9N and a 1930 Ford Model A and I have no problems.

Check with your local small airport. Mine has a grade of jet fuel, which is similar to kerosene, but the price is close to that of diesel fuel.
