As me handle says I'm Pete and I am only a Rookie compared to most on YT. Born and raised in Franklin Square, NY (Long Island NY, nearest landmark is Belmont RaceTrack about 10 miles west and NYC 25 west.
Suburban row houses of blue collar families, NYC Police, Fire, Sanitation Etc. When I was a kid a dreamed of being a Iroquois Indian but unfortunately was stuck living in Suburbia!
Started my PC software consulting biz in '87 and still at it today. Hate it at this point and prefer working with my hands and my head as opposed to my fingers and my head.
Left NY '03 post 911 as biz was almost none existent and while we were not yet under water on our house we were not making enough $$$ to live on LI. Moved to SC where we lived for 4 yrs outside Charleston. Too hot and sticky for our liking. In Feb '08 moved family up to York, Maine to a heavily wooded 1.5 acre lot! (Most land anyone in my family has ever had. LOL) Covered in mature Eastern White Pine ranging from 30-40 all the way up 75+ tall.
Only problem is ever since the developer "cut" out the patch to build the house, trees have been going down on a regular basis every ice, wet snow or "micro burst" storm. One section where a Nor'Easter got at it, looks like it has been bombed. Fallen trees, leaning trees ever which direction.
After getting tired of cutting up wood no one wanted (pine). Mills had too much due to the storms. Got a Alaskan Chainsaw Mill and started slabbing it. Made some nice big benches. Then my problem was hauling 18-24" by 10-12 logs out of the woods and lots of large rocks on property.
Got a estimate from a local excavating company and they wanted $6K to clear for a garage AND it would be more if they hit ledge.
Got the idea, to do it myself. Found the '66 Ford 4500 TLB in rough but
running/usable shape for $5k. Came across YTMag looking for info.
Love this old diesel. Battling leaks is a issue as I do not have the time or shop to fix it right now. No garage yet, not even any solid ground to work on. Gravel driveway or lawn and not much of that is even level.
Most of you would thing I am nuts but I would give up this software crap in a heart beat for a working farm. But with a wife and 3 boys that ain't going to happen unless I win the Lottery.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
