Here in Central NY we started out with record breaking heat in March. We planted some cold hardy stuff in the garden. (peas, onions, the garlic last fall, and spuds.) The Asparaguse came up earlier than I have ever seen, but since we have been having snow squalls during the days, and hard frosts nights, we were only able to harvest one meal of asparagus. As you see in the pic., it grows a couple inches each day and gets frozen off at night. The spuds have been frost bit several times. The peas have been up for 3 weeks now, but not doing much of anything. We ended up having to water heavily two weeks ago, because the wind was turning the soil to dust. To top it off the robins and starlings are pulling the onion sets out of the ground. We normally do the bulk of our planting over Memorial Day weekend. We will just have to set back and see if our early planting payed off.
