Chrysler has a long history of being hit and miss on trannies. Anything from the 904 that got a bad reputation because a tranny designed to go behind an smaller engine (318&the slant 6) in a mids sized car got put into full sized pickup and vans, Then was raised from the ashes when the Dakota came out (not bad) untill the mated an overdrive to it. They had several years with the Caravan that had catastrophic failures to the Intrepid tranny that had as many as 28 mods in one production year. But then again it seems they have had a good tranny in the Caravans for a number of years and they did make the 727 too.
