Ditto the recommendation to get a rental car and do some driving. Hoover Dam and the new bridge over it are must-sees. Red Rock Canyon is also worth a visit. Death Valley and Zion National Park are both within driving distance as well, but each will take up an entire day.
Fremont Street is an interesting bit of old Vegas, with a neat light show, certainly worth seeing. Be aware that your son will see quite a bit of skin there.
The Cirque du Soleil shows are quite amazing and have a price to match. I strongly recommend you see one of them. A more reasonably priced show is Penn and Teller; the bonus with P&T is they come out and meet with the audience after the show, pose for pictures, give autographs, etc. You can get last-minute discounted tickets from Tix4Tonight, which has several locations along the Strip.
