As I understand the situation, there is NO "lease agreement" which leaves payment terms open to interpretation. Claiming he owes a spring payment will not stand up in court without a lease agreement.
It also appears that the cousin has already put the crops in.
If you kick the cousin out now, there will be trouble. He will make himself out to be the injured party, find a cheap/free lawyer to listen to his sob story, and force the family to hire their own lawyer with money they do NOT have.
Common sense and logic have little meaning when lawyers become involved.
If it were my land he could forget about using it next year, but if he already has his crops in, he gets the benefit of the doubt.
