Jay, I know that you asked this of Rich, but I just had to chime in. I don't know about a lake near the ozarks, but I've seen photos of catfish being fished out near dams on the Tennessee River that would make many toss the pole, and hit the throttle full speed ahead away from Moby Dick Catfish, so to speak. I will see if I can find a link on the net.
One of the funniest things I ever saw, was a fishing show when I was stationed at Ft. Gordon, GA back in the early eighties. The show was catfishing on the Tennessee River, and they were huge. 3' long or longer these two guys were catching, and when it came time to unhook them, one guy would wrap rags around both hands to hold open the mouths and not get smashed, while the other guy went in and took the hook out. Big catfish. Anyway, the show was a half hour show, but obviously shot over a period of the day or so. These two guys were drinking beer all day, and when the show started, they were sober. But a half hour later as the show was ending, they were crocked. At the end, one guy hooked the last catfish for the show, and as he was fighting to get it into the boat, the other guy drunk out of his gourd took the super huge fish net, put it over the guy fighting the fish, pulled it down around his waist and started jerking him around the boat as he's screaming to cut it out until he lost his balance and fell into the water. Both of them guys were lit up. It was funny.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
