I have an MS250 with the Easy Start and I love it. I've used both, and the flip side is, I wouldn't have a 250 without the Easy Start. If your dad has/had shoulder problems, no way I'd give him a standard 250 without Easy Start. The extra 40 bucks is a no brainer. I tore the leg of my jeans and cut my leg a couple of times starting the standard 250.
The dealer I bought the saw with Easy Start from said he sells a lot of them to women, and also had sold one to an uncle of his who kept throwing his back out starting a regular saw.
For what it's worth, there has been a lot of discussion on this forum about gasoline for chain saws and small engines. I bought a new Stihl MS170 a coupla weeks ago, and the book says use gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 and no more than 10% ethanol. Can't say for elsewhere, but hereabouts 10% ethanol is rated at 89 octane so that's what I've been using and it runs great. Regular unleaded without ethanol is rated at 87 octane.
