You are right about keeping them charged . Eight years ago I started useing battery maintains on all tractor and garden tractors. Those one year garden tractor batterys will last 6 and7 years if keep them fully charged. One of the biggest reasons battery fails is a lot of them set all winter not charged and the cold does damage to them. Also to much dirt and crud on top of a battery can short a battery out.
