I don't know if the higher rate of amputees is from the IED bombs (I'm ex EOD that improvised stuff scares the poop outta me) or that we're doing better treating the troops on the battlefield after injury so they are coming home alive but not with all their limbs. If you're looking for something to do today that's related to the holiday see if you can get the movie "Taking Chance" It's about a Marine LTC who is frustrated to be stuck in a staff assignment in D.C. during the current hostilities. He is almost obsessed with causalities, checking every day. He sees a young Marine that has been KIA from his hometown in Colorado, he goes to his Commander and pleads to be allowed to perform escort duty to take this young man home. The movie is about his experiences with the government, it's bureaucracies and how the people and businesses he encounters respond to him and his mission as he takes this young PFC to his final resting place. Spoiler alert the people and businesses treat him a lot better than the government.
