Putting a resistor in the ignition circuit reduces the voltage to the coil/points. If it is 12 volt, and has a 6 volt coil it will need a resistor to keep it operating. While starting, a resistor can be bypassed to allow starting on cranking voltage. Run a wire from the starter button to a 5 amp diode, then to the coil side of the resistor. This prevents reverse flow of voltage that would make the starter continue to operate. If it has a mecanical starter switch with a lead going to the starter motor the wire/ and diode can be spliced to that. The diode should be set so its polarity lets voltage flow to the coil, and not the other direction. I do not know the configuration of your system, or its ground polarity so I cannot tell you which way the diode faces except as above. Jim
