We've had this thing for about... 5 years or so, I guess [it wasn't my choice to buy this particular mower -- let me just say that up front]. At any rate, the bracket that holds the wheels to the frame is only bolted in two places on each side. One right below the wheel mount, and another in the back right above the "safety flap".
At any rate, the wheel bracket sheared in the back right above the safety flap, so the whole back end would wobble left and right and the bars would drop down to 2 feet off the ground when pushing it... Since only two bolts were holding the wheels on the mower anymore.
So, I took a new 5/16" drill bit and went to town...
The drilling was a bit rough, but plenty of oil and running it as slowly as possible got me there.
One hole through the meaty center part of the back and through the frame, and one hole through the side in the meaty part where there was plenty of space for a new hole.
So now I have two bolts holding the safety flap and six bolts to hold the wheels to the frame. The whole thing is very rigid now and pushes nicely and the bars stay at a proper height. All in all, about an hour job to fix her up. Hopefully she'll last me another 5 years or so (though the Briggs & Stratton engine burns oil on every use, which sucks).
If she breaks again, I'll either junk it or weld it... But probably junk it. On the plus side, this is just the back-up mower...

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
