We have had raised bed gardens for near 20 yrs, Always liked the ease of maintainance, and harvesting. This year the real benifit of raised beds and #2 stone around them came to play. We have hard shelled snails and slugs in epidemic proportions this year. The stones get warm and dry early in the morning, and most of those critters die trying cross to the boxes, and then they have to climb the 10" sides of sun drenched boxes. They TOTALLY destroyed my neighbors conventional gardens this past rainy week. They resorted to spreading a line of road salt around the parimiter of their gardens to stop the invasion.
