Just be glad it is just nutsedge and not bermuda:) I soo plugged a large area of my yard in Zoysia last spring. It is coming along quite well. I dont have a problem with nutsedge but do have a terrible problem with bermuda.
I'm not aware of a chemical that will kill nutsedge that wont injure the Zoysia. I think the best plan here is to apply chemical only to the nutsedge. It should be easy. The nutsedge grows much more quickly than the Zoysia. Let it get 3 or 4 inches taller than the Zoysia then use a sponge or sponge mop to apply a chemical such as Liberty only to the nutsedge. Liberty will only burn the zoysia that it touches. I reccomend using the Liberty (ignite) in at least half of full strength in your mop/sponge as you "wick" it on. Be careful to keep the mop damp enough to coat the nutsedge but not wet enough to drip on the Zoysia. Wear chemical resistant gloves. You can even dissolve a touch of Ammonium Sulfate in the water with your ignite to really "heat" things up. Your nutsedge will give up the ghost in 72 hours if the sun is out and the temps are warm.
