He's asking for $100/hour for operating his equipment. It's way too much for just the fuel of course, but that's the going rate for dozer/excavator work in my area (maybe it's even $120/hour these days), but is pretty darn high for custom ag work. On the other hand, it ain't really fair to pay him just for the fuel and expect him to donate his time and equipment costs.
You say he did tillage and put up your hay on shares, did he also do the seeding or some other work for you since then?
Of course it's way over what the cost of fuel was, but I'm not sure it's fair to expect him to donate his time and equipment costs either.
